Flip Side of Celebrity
I’m Chuck Wilson with an ESPN Radio Extra Point.
From time to time we all wonder what it would be like to be rich and famous, what would it be like to be a celebrity.
It sounds great.
But for all the money and ease of life it brings, the “good life” comes with some baggage.
The spotlight is bright and your every move is scrutinized and every misstep becomes a public issue.
For being in the center of attention isn’t always easy.
LeBron James is already famous, already a celebrity. The rich part is right around the corner when he becomes the number one pick in the NBA Draft and signs his huge shoe contract.
It caused a stir when his Mom purchased an expensive SUV for his 18th birthday and yesterday, the day the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced the purchase didn’t violate any amateur rules, Lebron James reportedly was involved in a traffic accident.
It doesn’t appear to have been all that serious, but the driver of the other vehicle is 88-years-old and since it involves LeBron James, the story will get lots of coverage.
Welcome to the flip side of celebrity.
